I just got a 49" tiller from CCM, and started to size the PTO shaft when I found a problem. If I cut the shaft so I have clearance at the min length (all the way up), I'm only left with 1.5" of overlap at max extension (all the way down). The manual says I need a min of 6", which I don't have even at min length. Mark at CCM says he has another, lighter duty PTO shaft he can send me, but I do like the idea of the heavier shaft I have. The clutch on both of these is not the standard disk type but a cam type that supposedly doesn't have the problems of locking up and needing to be loosened and run in each year, which also sounds appealing.
As I see it I have 3 opotions. Live with the 1.5" overlap (not likely).
Try the other PTO shaft frmo CCM.
Buy a set of Pat's quick hitch couplers to push the tiller back and use the shaft I have.
Question:
What are other BX users doing, or is this not a problem with other tillers?
What is the best way to go?
Am I missing something?
I'm also a little concerned that the PTO shaft I have has a clutch that may be oversized for my Bx2230.

The problem with the BX is it's really a cat 0 size cat 1. In other words a garden tractor tryp hitch which takes cat 1 implements. Full size cat 1 implements don't match up as good a a CUT. These sub-compacts are small. I have found the XB implements to fit perfectly without this problem. I'd try the other shaft before I'd run a tiller with only 1.5" of overlap. ....

One of the things we often do when this is the case is to limit the upper limits of the tractors three point hitch so you can't raise it to those dangerous points. ....

There is an adjustment that you can make to the linkage. It is in the manual. I can't remember off the top of my head, but the rod that you adjust is on the right side in the back. just in from the rear wheel. it will adjust how far the 3ph raises and lowers. But now that I think of it, it may just adjust how low the 3ph will go. Check the manual. ....

Sounds like the same type of control the GC2300 has. On the Massey, there is a threaded rod from the 3-point lever that goes through a bracket on the rockshaft. One either side of the bracket are pairs of jam nuts. The front set controls how high the hitch raises and the back set controls the lower position. When the rockshaft moves enough for the bracket to contact the nuts, it pushes on the rod and automatically moves the lever to the neutral position. ....

that's exactly right. I had to fiddle with that adjustment when I first got the machine since it raised the MMM arms so far that they contacted the underside of the tractor before returning the lever to the neutral position. In this case however, the pto shaft was simply too large for my tractor. CCM sent a smaller one and I'm tilling like wild man now. I now have about 5" of overlap on the pto shaft in the fully extended position, much better than the 1.5" I had with the first one. The clultch is sized more closely to my pto output as well. I decided to skip the quick hitch option since I don't have that much trouble hooking up implements, and it saves me 200$ that I can put toward a box blade. And I thought once I bought the tractor I'd be done spending money... does this ever end? I'm looking at rotary cutter too!

Does this ever end? I guess it must, but I haven't found the end yet.
I have managed to throttle back a bit, or at least I thought I was until a couple of weeks ago when I popped for a dump trailer. I was cleaning my credit card and it went off.
